Having a bakery has always been a dream of mine—specifically a bakery and coffee shop. But like most good things, we’re starting small, beginning with the bakery side.
Naming it, though? That part wasn’t so simple.I knew I wanted something fun. Something a little funky. A one-word name that didn’t feel too cutesy or punny—and definitely not something with my name in it. I wanted a brand people would actually want to wear… stickers, tote bags, the whole thing.
I went through so many ideas. None of them felt quite right—and most of them were already taken anyway.
Then one night, while doing what I’ve done since about 2009—scrolling Pinterest—I came across the word Meraki.
Meraki (may-rah-key) is a Greek word that means doing something with soul, creativity, or love—putting a piece of yourself into your work. Instantly, I knew.
The name clicked. The brand came together. Even the logo started forming in my head. But more than anything, the meaning stuck with me—because there’s no better way to describe baking.
You don’t bake without putting something of yourself into it.
I bake because I genuinely love it—the process, the creativity, and getting to make something from scratch that people can enjoy.
What you’ll find here is a mix of things I’m excited about. Some are simple, some are a little more involved, but everything is made with intention and care. I like to keep things fresh, try new ideas, and not stay boxed into just one kind of bake.
Sourdough is what really pushed me to start sharing what I make, and it will always be a staple here—but it’s just one part of the bigger picture.
Everything I make is small batch, thoughtfully made, and meant to be shared.
Hi, I’m Katie—the owner and baker behind Meraki.
I’ve spent the past several years working in marketing, with a background in customer service—but baking has always been the thing that feels different.
It’s fun, creative, and a little unpredictable. I love starting with a recipe and making it my own. Sometimes that leads to great things… and sometimes it leads to potato chip chocolate chip cookies—which, for the record, were a universal no. But when something does turn out, it’s the best feeling.
I’m not classically trained—just the school of YouTube, TikTok, and a lot of trial and error. But I care deeply about what I make, and I put everything I have into it.
When I’m not baking, I’m usually still creating—crocheting, trying out new crafts like wood working or pressing flowers, or heading out on a photography drive. I’ve always loved working with my hands, which is probably why baking feels so natural to me.
Meraki may have my name on it, but it’s built on a whole lot of love behind the scenes.
My mom, Cindy, is the one who encourages me, pushes me to do the hard things, and reminds me to believe in myself. And I’m lucky to have my grandma, my brother and sister-in-law (who are always very willing taste testers), and my friends and extended family all cheering me on and supporting this journey.
I’m endlessly grateful for all of them.
